National Board Certification Support Program
The University of Washington National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (UW NBPTS) Support Program provides professional learning during regional and certificate-alike meetings. Through the UW NBPTS Support Program, teachers can earn clock hours or opt for six graduate credits that may be applied to a master's in instructional leadership. Orientation will take place on June 10 and September 23 on the UW campus in Seattle. 

Supporting Success for Every Student: A Developmental Model
Learn from leading researchers and practitioners about research findings on assessment linked to teaching reading, writing, and math as well as how to translate these findings into effective instruction for grades K-12. Develop skill in tailoring instruction for individual students below, at, or above grade‐level. Gain understanding of instruction sensitive to cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic diversity. Designed for general education and special education teachers, school psychologists and principals. Ten clock hours are available. UW Mathematics Education Project Summer Institute
This summer, the UW Mathematics Education Project will offer two workshops for K-12 teachers: Moving Beyond Whole Numbers: Supporting Students to Understand Fractions and Designing Effective Groupwork in Mathematics. Both workshops are now open for registration.

  • Moving Beyond Whole Numbers: Supporting Students to Understand Fractions is designed for elementary teachers and math coaches. It will be offered on the UW Seattle campus July 10 through July 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. In this workshop, you'll unpack the progression of big ideas related to fractions and gain tools and strategies to engage students in developing understanding of these big ideas. This workshop will be taught by Dr. Becca Lewis and Dr. Adrian Cunard. Both are former classroom teachers who now teach in the UW College of Education and lead professional development in mathematics for elementary teachers and instructional coaches around the region.

  • Designing Effective Groupwork in Mathematics is a workshop d for middle and high school mathematics teachers that will be offered at the UW Bellevue location July 17 through July 21. In this workshop, you'll learn the principles and practices of Complex Instruction, an effective group-based pedagogy grounded in research. You'll gain tools and strategies to ensure that ALL students, regardless of their ethnic, language, socio-economic, and achievement backgrounds, have equal-status participation in small groups and are held accountable for learning rigorous mathematics. The workshop will be led by Karen O'Connell and Jess Griffin. Together, Karen and Jess have almost 20 years of experience teaching with Complex Instruction at the high school level and both have worked with teachers in their classrooms as they implement this pedagogy with students.
