Magnus: Mobile Applications and Game Development Master Study programme
Educational Instution: Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University
The programme aims to create conditions for the formation of a true gaming, programming and criticizing professionals who know how to integrate developing and design knowledge with modern information and communications technology, as well as to enable students to continue their studies and to introduce them to scientific work in the areas of virtual reality, computer graphics, artificial intelligence,. The curriculum consists of three core areas:
a) Mobile applications development
b) Interaction Design
c) Game development
Curriculum consist three integrated areas: creativity, technical knowledge and management. The curriculum is practice oriented. In ideal after graduation, teams will start working as mobile application developers, game designers and creators, entrepreneurs and supporters of the mobile applications and games industry.
The curriculum is based on the total enrolment for the mandatory basic subjects, and then according to the chosen field of specialization modules taught in specialty subjects (mobile developer, game designer).

BEU participates the first working meeting within the framework of the MAGNUS project
On September 4, the first working meeting within the framework of the Erasmus + KA2 program within the project "MAGNUS - Master programs on mobile applications and computer games in partner universities" funded by the European Union was held at Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU). The meeting was attended by members of the local project - the Baku State University and Baku Engineering University, as well as the leadership of the Erasmus Azerbaijan office. The meeting featured discussion on the structure of the project, duties of participants, the plan of the work to be carried out, and the establishment of a new master's program within the project. At the end of the meeting, the participants held a division of work to prepare a syllabus and agreed on future meetings.
BEU participates a meeting within the framework of the “Erasmus+ KA2” program
On November 7 the monitoring meeting within the framework of the Erasmus + KA2 program within the project "MAGNUS - Master programs on mobile applications and computer games in partner universities" funded by the European Union was held at Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU). The meeting was attended by members of the local project - the Baku State University and Baku Engineering University, as well as the leadership of the Erasmus Azerbaijan office. The meeting held in order to determine the current situation, to develop the plan of participants' duties and responsibilities, works to be done, was also featured discussion on new perspectives in conducted discussions and analyzes.
BEU employees (MAGNUS) take part in initial meeting of ERASMUS + KA2 project at Linköping University
Babak Abbasov, Head of the Computer and IT Department of Baku Engineering University, and Ali Hasanov, Senior Lecturer of the Department, have participated in the initial meeting held at Linköping University, Sweden, within the framework of the ERASMUS + KA2 exchange programme “Developing Master’s Programmes in Mobile Applications and Game Design at Partner Universities.” During the meeting, representatives of Baku Engineering University made a presentation on the dissemination and use of the master's program on "Mobile applications and game design." The prepared presentation was highly appreciated by the project manager and listeners. It should be noted that the project manager, noting the success of the University in international projects, named Baku Engineering University as a leading university in the latest package of work on the dissemination and use of the project.
BEU employees attend International Training
On July 1, 2019, Babak Abbasov, Head of Computer and Information Technology Department of Baku Engineering University, and Head of the Laboratory of the Department, Rauf Suleymanli have participated in the event within the framework of ERASMUS+KA2 project “Developing Master Programmes in Mobile Application and Game Design(MAGNUS)” organized the University of Derby and sponsored by the European Union. On the first day of the event, Janer Lundquist, Professor of the Linköping University in Sweden and the head of the Erasmus + KA2 project MAGnUS, gave detailed information to the training participants. Later, lecture of the University of Derby and international trainer of the project, Professor Carlton McDonald's instructors were informed about the four-day program and started trainings. After the visit, BEU staff held a detailed discussion of the training with the project working group at the International Relations and Project Management Department of the Vice-rectorate for International Relations. During the discussions, they exchanged views on the responsibilities of BEU during the 3-year (2019-2021) implementation of the project, ways to apply the experience gained from foreign partners within the framework of the project among other universities, the laboratory organization to be established at BEU, as well as the new courses and curriculum on graduate degree program.
BEU lecturers attend international training
The next international training has been held in Tallinn, Estonia within the framework of the Erasmus + programme. The event was attended by Babak Abbasov, Head of Computer and Information Technologies Department at Baku Engineering University (BMU) and Etibar Seyidzade, Senior Lecturer of so-called Department. The main theme of the training organized on the basis of the “MAGnUs” project European Union was the experience of the Swedish, UK, Estonian and Portuguese experience of the graduate degree program entitled “Mobile applications and game design”. BEU lecturers are participating in the international trainings organized within the framework of the project for the third time. It aims is to apply the so-called master's program to BEU using European experience.
BEU employees participate in the online meeting of "MAGnUS" Erasmus + KA2 project
Vice-Rector for International Relations of Baku Engineering University (BEU), Associate Professor Manafaddin Namazov, Head of Foreign Relations and Project Management Arif Najimov, Head of Computer and Information Technology Department, Associate Professor Babek Abbasov have attended online conference of the Erasmus + KA2 project entitled “Development of Master Applications for Mobile Applications and Game Design (MAGnUS) at Partner Universities”, funded by EU, and led by Linkopings University. Professor Janerik Lundquist, an employee of Linkopings University in Sweden and head of the current project, introduced the agenda to the participants. Later, the analysis of the results of the project during 2019, the tasks and responsibilities for 2020, the list of equipment to be purchased for partner universities, as well as the works to be done by each partner after the COVID-19 pandemic were discussed in detail. Associate professors M.Namazov and A.Najimov also made various proposals during the discussions. Associate Professor B.Abbasov informed about the preparation of the curriculum and training materials "Mobile applications and game design master's programs" prepared within the project at BEU and answered the questions of European experts in detail. Employees of University of Derby, Polytechnic Institute of Tomar , Tallinn University , Southern Federal University, Astrakhan State University and Voronezh State University, as well as other higher education institutions of Azerbaijan (BSU and ASOIU) took an active part in the meeting. It should be noted that the aim of the current project is to improve the quality of Information Technology (IT) education and and increase the employment of IT graduates by developing a master's program "Mobile applications and game design in partner universities" in accordance with the Bologna principles and modern requirements for the universities from non-EU universities, such as Azerbaijan and Russia as partners. The current project also envisaged increasing the knowledge and skills of IT teachers at partner universities and establishing a laboratory that meets modern requirements. BEU and University of Derby discuss the cooperation opportunities
Vice-Rector of Baku Engineering University(BEU) for International Relations, Associate Professor Manafaddin Namazov, Head of International Relations and Project Management Arif Najimov, Dean of Engineering Faculty, Associate Professor Huseyn Mirzayev, Head of Computer and Information Technology, Associate Professor Babek Abbasov have attended an online meeting organized with the employees of University of Derby. The meeting discussed opportunities for the development of international relations between the two universities, the development of dual diplomas and research programs. At the end of the discussions, it was decided to prepare proposals to the rectors of both universities and organize an additional online meeting by the end of May. It should be noted that the University of Derby in England is one of the partners from the European Union in the consortium of the Erasmus + KA2 project (https://magnus2020.org) participated by BEU, funded by European Union and entitled "Development of master's programs in mobile applications and game design (MAGnUS) in partner universities".
Online summer school organized within the framework of "MAGNUS" Erasmus + KA2 project
Online summer school was organized on July 20-24, 2020 within the framework of Erasmus + KA2 project "Development of mobile applications and game design master's programs (MAGnUS) in partner universities" funded by the European Union and implemented under the leadership of Linkopings University. Summer school aimed to introduce some of the topics of the new master's program to students by lecturers from partner universities. Along with BEU students, the summer school was attended by BEU lecturers. Thus, on July 23, Yusif Yusifov, lecturers of Computer and Information Technologies Department, spoke on "iOS application for beginners". Moreover, Etibar Seyidzada, senior lecturer of the Department, made a speech on "Data Structure - Asymptotic Analysis of Algorithms" in English. Employees of Derby University of England, Polytechnic Institute of Tomar of Portugal, Tallinn University of Estonia, Southern Federal University of the Russian Federation, Astrakhan State University and Voronezh State University, as well as other higher education institutions of Azerbaijan (BSU and ASOIU) took part in the online summer school. It should be noted that the aim of the current project is to improve the quality of Information Technology (IT) education and increase the employment of IT graduates by developing a master's program "Mobile applications and game design" that meets the modern requirements of the Bologna principles for non-EU universities, such as universities involved as partners from Azerbaijan and Russia. "Mobile Applications and Game Design" laboratory launched at BEU
A laboratory for the specialty "Mobile Applications and Game Design" has been established within the framework of Erasmus + KA2 project “Developing master programmes in mobile applications and game design (MAGnUS) at partner universities” participated by Baku Engineering University (BEU) as a partner, funded by the European Union and implemented under the leadership of Linkopings University in Sweden. The purpose of the already established laboratory is to increase the knowledge and skills of teachers involved in the teaching of information technology and related subjects at the university, as well as students studying in this field at BEU. Moreover, one of the main goals is to improve the quality of Information Technology (IT) education and support the employment of IT graduates by developing a master's program "Mobile applications and game design" that meets modern requirements in accordance with the Bologna Process principles. Employees of the Department also took an active part in the organization of the laboratory under the leadership of the head of the Department of Computer and Information Technologies of BEU, associate professor Babek Abbasov. The laboratory was equipped with modern equipment, as well as the necessary application software packages and emulators for the development of mobile applications. Taking into account the design of 3D game applications, the need for computers with special video cards and other features for testing, the laboratory was equipped with modern computers with high performance, including gaming and graphics. The laboratory also has compatible VR equipment to test applications designed for virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) environments. In addition to the basic subjects of the mobile application development specialization curriculum, the cirruculum included the development of user interfaces for mobile applications (UI / UX design), design and development of mobile applications, development of applications running in many environments, etc. Moreover, the curriculum of the game design specialization included the design and development of game applications for android, and ios environments, the development of interfaces for game applications (UI / UX design), the development of game assets, etc. The laboratory is ready to organize various trainings not only for BEU students and teachers, but also for those interested in "Mobile Applications and Game Design". Professional, experienced ICT teachers of BEU were involved in conducting various trainings and seminars to be organized at the laboratory. In addition to this laboratory, other laboratories are planned to be established at BEU this year within Erasmus + KA2 projects, and the University's vice-rectorate for international relations is working in this direction. BEU employees participate in course as part of Erasmus+ KA2 project
"Training for Trainers" course (11-12) has been organized within the framework of the Erasmus+ KA2 project "Developing master's programmes in mobile applications and game design at partner universities (MAGnUS)" funded by the European Union and managed by Sweden's Linköpings University, and in which Baku Engineering University (BEU) is a partner. The course was conducted by two experts invited from Linköpings University, Sweden, Ullakarin Sundqvist Nilsson and Jörg Schminder. In the course on the topic "Educational environment supported by new information technologies", employees of BEU, Vice-Rector for International Relations, associate professor Manafaddin Namazov, Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs of the Engineering Faculty Ali Hasanov, senior lecturer of the Department of Computer and Information Technologies Etibar Seyidzada and electronic system administrator of Vice-Rectorate for Academic Affairs Rauf Suleymanli participated. Certificates were presented to the participants at the end of the course, which was attended by employees of other partner universities (BSU and ASOSU) involved in the "MAGnUS" Erasmus+ KA2 project. The main goal of the above-mentioned project is to improve the quality of information technology (IT) education and increase the employment of IT graduates by preparing the "Mobile Applications and Game Design" master's program for universities outside the European Union that meets the Bologna principles and meets modern requirements. Improving the knowledge and skills of teachers engaged in IT teaching at partner higher education institutions, as well as building a laboratory that meets modern requirements, are among the goals of the project(https://magnus2020.org/).
Final conference held as part of Erasmus+ KA2 project
The final conference has been held within the framework of the Erasmus+ KA2 project "Developing master's programs in mobile applications and game design at partner universities (MAGnUS)" funded by the European Union and managed by Sweden's Linköpings University, and in which Baku Engineering University (BEU ) is a partner. The conference was attended by BEU employees, Ali Hasanov, Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs of the Faculty of Engineering, Narmin Alakbarova, an employee of the Department of International Relations and Project Management, and Rauf Suleymanli, the electronic system administrator of the Vice-Rectorate for Academic Affairs. At the event, the head of the National Erasmus+ office of Azerbaijan, Parviz Baghirov informed about the advantages of the project to the Azerbaijani higher education system. Project coordinator Professor Janerik Lundquist expressed his gratitude to all partner universities for their contribution, and wished that the achievements achieved within the framework of the project would continue. Plenary sessions on the topics "Game laboratories", "Mobile Applications", "Scientific point of view: Designing of the mobile games for education using AI and AE" were carried out at the conference.
